May’s Fuel King/Queen Challenge

I’m launching a Fuel King/Queen Challenge here on Couple Money and My Financial Reviews this month! With summer approaching, I thought it would be nice to have a month long challenge to encourage one another to save money in a big way.
I also thought it would be nice to have a challenge that could help others save money over the long haul, so this month's challenge is a friendly competition to improve gas mileage with the cars we drive.
Of course having some prizes makes challenges a bit more fun!
Fuel Challenge – Money or Amazon Giftcards
We’re giving away money (via paypal) or Amazon gift cards to 3 winners, divided up by type of car driven. Right now the prizes are:
- $75 thru Paypal or Amazon Gift card for sedan/coupe drivers (I'm grateful that Improve Yourself Daily is helping out and adding $25 to the prize pot!)
- $50 thru Paypal or Amazon Gift card for SUV/truck drivers
- $25 thru Paypal or Amazon Gift card for hybrid car drivers (Thanks to Crystal at Budgeting In the Fun Stuff for sponsoring this prize!)

The contest ends May 31, 2012 (11:59 PM Eastern). You must be 18 or over to qualify for the prize. If you don't have a Paypal account, you will be sent an Amazon GiftCard. This contest is open to U.S. and Canadian readers. Please keep your gas receipts to verify mileage.
Thoughts on Fuel Chllenge
Best wishes to all who sign up. Even though not everyone can win the prizes, all of us can save a bit of money this month. What are your goals for this challenge?
Great idea with the fuel challenge! One of the things that I did to save fuel is to purchase a motorcycle several years ago. At 40+mpg, it has saved me hundreds of gallons of gas per year over my truck due to my 80 mile commute each day. Although I don’t qualify, I look forward to following the results.

Aw man, I wish we had a motorcycle category to include you Shawn. If this goes well, I’ll add the category.
I just bought a 2012 Camry Hybrid LE and am anxious to see how it does compared with your other readers

Oooh, I’m curious too! Don’t forget to track your progress with My Financial Reviews – it’ll be interesting to how you can save with a hybrid.
I definitely want to give the challenge a try, but I’ll have to think about a reasonable goal first.
I understand Shaun. Just keep your receipts this month for when you decide to join in 🙂
I’m up for the challenge! Should be interesting…
Great Julie! I think it’ll be fun to see how everyone does. At the very least, I’ve become a bit more conscious with my driving since creating the challenge.
I never saw how to sign up – but I drive an SUV and average 24 mpg. If I push it (and if I am the only driver I can get 26-27) If my husband drives we get 22-23.
Of course if twitter is the only way to sign up then that leaves many of your readers out…
I guess the 34 mpg will have to go up on our wall as a person point of pride…
