Before Steve and Jennifer were married the two of them sat down and discussed what they wanted.

She was upfront and clear that she wanted to be a stay at home mom when they had children.

Fast forward a few years and they were expecting and she still wanted to quit her job. With their circumstances, they couldn't lose her income.

To off-set this change, they decided to start a business.

You might be wondering if they're running a business wouldn't it take away time from their family?

Steve and his wife decided they were going to run an online store. Instead of just doing it whenever they had free time, they ran it just like a brick and mortar business and were able to earn over $100,000 their first year!

Steve went over the highs and lows of the process on the podcast.

How Selling Wedding Linens Became the Family BusinessReady to quit your job and start your own business? Steve Chou, Founder of My Wife Quit Her Job and co-founder of Bumblebee Linens, shares how you can build a business from home!

Believe or not, they found their niche by going back to their wedding day.

Jennifer wanted to have linen napkins on hand for photos. They were unable to find a local vendor so they ordered from China.

Since they only used a handful of those napkins, they decided to sell the rest online. It was a huge success.

Bumblebee Linens was born.

Even though their business is based online, the Chou family had to make sacrifices of their evenings and weekends to get things in place.

There are no free lunches, so if you want to earn some extra expect to put the time in.

Through the years, they have worked together on ways to improve.

Steve remarked that there are more tools and options for those looking at opening up their own online store.

Steve still works (he loves what he does), but his wife is able to be home with the kids.

Starting and running a business isn't easy, but it has been worth the scarifce for the Chou family.

  1. Cool article, Elle! So many ways to be a stay-at-home mom! My daughter’s best friend sells an organic beauty product line and is outperforming her greatest goals, and is raising 2 little ones at the same time. She’s working very hard, no doubt, but is ecstatic about her success!

Love your suggestions and ideas! I am a stay-at-home grandmother and caretaker for my active, healthy but older parents – I am able to be available to my children when they need me to babysit the grandbabies, as well as free to provide a warm and welcoming home for my aging parents…it’s worth the time and energy to be able to keep the family happy and connected. Thanks for your insight!
