Steve Jobs: Lessons From Life
No doubt, you've seen plenty of tributes about Steve Jobs and lessons gained from his life. I think the flood of responses and reflections shows the impact that he's had on many people.
I'm just going to share two quotes from him that I appreciate and think can help add value to life.
Keep It Simple; Be Focused
People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully.
Apple products have a defining trait of keeping the interface simple and clean. Think of the iPod and it's wheel button design. Steve had specific ideas of what he wanted. He didn't need focus groups telling him what to make and how it should be done.
How about you? Do you have focus in your life? Do you feel like you have balance? What goal do you have for yourself and your family? Each couple have to figure for themselves what their goals are. You tend to be more successful when you focus on a few instead of a lot of goals.
Love What You Do
Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.
His happiness wasn't from making money, it came from creating and sharing. Technology and industries were changing based on products that Apple released. Steve was doing what he loved and was with people he loved when he passed.
Don't wait to get started on doing work you love. If you have a family to support and you can't leap in, then take baby steps. Work on the side doing what you love, keep your expenses low, and save money to make the transition.
Fascinating how someone can have a large impact on others. Steve Jobs was a confident and original thinker and with his partner Steve Wozniak they created a company with a string of memorable products and ideas. I'm truly sadden that he passed away at a relatively young age.
