April has passed way too quickly for my taste, but it also means that summer is approaching. Starting this month, there will be some changes to how I publish my net worth reviews. I'm changing the format for my benefit, but I also noticed that it would work well for some readers.

April Spending Habits

I thought it would nice to include a chart showing some of our spending habits for the previous month. I used Mint's chart feature. I'll try to have a bigger one up on Flickr later this week as I update my photos online.

Here's how our spending compared to March.

Here's how our spending compared to March.

Checking & Savings

Our checking and savings accounts were a bit lower than usual. We went ahead and booked our hotel with Priceline for our trip in June. With taxes and everything, the week will be about $400 out of pocket.

We had planned on using a portion of our tax refund for the trip, but it's been delayed. We used some money in savings and will replenish it over the month with some extra work.

We also purchased tickets to Star Wars in Concert when it comes in town this July.

Retirement Accounts

My Roth IRA has been pretty stagnant. I haven't really seen too much growth last month. My husband has done a bit better and his contributions with a match have helped.

One reason for the delay with the net worth update is due to some technical issues. My husband has his retirement account login disabled due too many failed logins. He says he has too many passwords and will try to straighten out. He's called the helpline, but the wait time too long.

Hopefully he'll get this fixed in the next week or so and it'll be much easier to keep track of his 401(k).

House and Mortgage

As new home loaners, I think we're off to a good start with paying down our new mortgage. It’s a 30 year fixed rate mortgage and it’s at 5%. We've been making our extra mortgage payments, with it being directed towards the principle.

Student Loans

Our first payment with the student loan consolidation is due towards the end of May. Even though the minimum due has been lowered, we're going to pay the same amount as before, so the principle will be chipped away.

Monthly Summary

After tallying up all the accounts, we were happy to see that we've gained a little bit on our net worth.

Net Worth (as of April 30th, 2010): $25,804.34 (+1,543.34)

  1. Oh, you’re gonna see SW in concert. I totally missed it when they were in my area. And it looks SO AWESOME! You’ll have to give updates.

BTW, nice graph. Can I ask what you use? As long as the NW is going up… its all good. 🙂

  2. I’ll definitely include details and tweets at the Star Wars Concert. We’re going with friends so we got a cheaper ticket price. We’re Star Wars fans (my husband is the bigger one between us) and I’m hoping this will be a wonderful show.

I used did a print screen from Mint to grab our spending data. I’m glad you liked it!

  3. Just found out my local venue is playing Star Wars in Concert at the end of this month! Woo Hoo!

Oh, gotta use Mint. Unfortunately, my CU info isn’t automatic due to being a small bank. But love the graph.

  4. I hope you have fun; please let me know how it goes. It took a bit for my old credit union to be listed, so yours might come soon.
