After the year we had in 2020, I know many families – counting ourselves too- are reevaluating things, including finances.
One lesson gleaned from the past year was making sure the budget was optimized so that whatever we were spending on was either essential or something we truly enjoyed.
There really was no reason to keep subscriptions for streaming services we don't use frequently or not reviewing our bills to make sure we were getting the best value.
Slashing Your Smartphone Bills
One area where you may be able to save some significant money is by looking at your smartphones.
Smartphones and family plans can be pricey.
Depending on who you go with, paying for an unlimited family plan for a family of four can set them back about $180-$200/month.
How would you like to cut that bill down in half?
It's completely possible.
And no, you don't have to settle for a cheap as in low quality phone.
Innovation in the smartphone space has led to some wonderfully affordable options where you can get the coverage of the big companies at a fraction of the price.
Today I'm focusing on one of my favorites – and the one I use – Republic Wireless.
They have monthly plans starting as low as $15/month!
I've been with them for around nine years and they have consistently had given great service at some low priced.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Joel Kades to dig into how they are able to offer such a great deal with their plans.
We also get into their newest releases with Motorola.
Affordable Smartphone Plans
Customers can choose what cell phone plan works best for them, including:

The icing on the cake is that are no contracts or termination fees.
Republic Wireless is fast becoming an attractive option for families looking to drastically cut their cell phone bill without sacrificing service.
Plenty of Smartphones to Choose From
One big draw with Republic Wireless is the choices you have with high-quality yet still affordable Android smartphones.
Whether you're a fan of Samsung, Motorola, or Pixel, there's a phone for you.
With Samsung, Republic Wireless has both the S-series with cutting-edge features and the A-series, which is all about delivering value.
I myself am a fan of Motorola, which is perfect since Republic just released four new Moto Gs, each with great specs and even better prices.
I'm using the Moto g Stylus and love it.
Working from home, with two kids means there are days where I'm on the go all around the house. Having the Moto g allows me to keep up with work and be able to help the kids.
Here are the specs forthe Moto g Stylus:
- Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 678
- 48 MP quad-camera system
- 128 GB of storage (Expandable up to 512GB with microSD card)
This all for $299!
Again, they also have Motos starting at $149, very affordable for families.

Republic Wireless has teamed up with Swappa, . you can pick up a newish phone on the cheap. Plus, you get a sim card with one month's free service. Double win!
How Republic Wireless Gives Great Coverage

For those who haven't heard of Republic Wireless and are curious about how they are able to offer such low prices for unlimited plans, their ‘secret' is hybrid calling.
Okay, technically, they're a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), but I think hybrid sums it up better.
Hybrid calling has your phone use Wi-Fi for calls, web, text, and all things mobile, and if there isn’t Wi-Fi available your phone uses the cellular network.
Republic Wireless' coverage is wide because they have two networks they're pulling from – T-Mobile and Sprint's (which are now one company with overlapping networks).
On your end, you do not really notice because Republic offers a seamless transition between wi-fi and cellular. Even if you're on a call, your phone can move between the two.
Now I'm mainly based in Raleigh, but we do travel for both work and for fun.
Having this service for nine years, I've never had a major issue. In fact, with the wi-fi option, I've been able to connect in places where the cell signal was a bit lacking.
Thoughts on Republic Wireless
There you have – you now know why I'm a big fan of Republic Wireless. I think they offer incredible value with both their phones and plans!
